School-Age Teacher

South-East Asia Center’s Bridge International School seeks a full-time school-age teacher for grades 2 – 6.

The position involves teaching 172 part days from 2:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. then full 8-hour days, 82 days of the year (summers and school holidays).

You are charged with creating timely lesson plans throughout the year while following an annual curricular theme.

During the 172 or so days of part-day teaching, you will have a second assignment for the morning half of the day.

SEAC will work to match your skills and interests with the many aspects of what we do at SEAC to help people in need. Some of our teachers have taught ESL, provided social services to immigrants, worked in our adult day service, Pre-K or toddler program, performed accounting or architecture duties, done gardening, health care monitoring, cooking/shopping, carpentry, landscaping, childcare intake, etc. We have 14+ programs and need much support.

Qualifications include BA or MA in Education, ability to write and follow a lesson plan, ability to manage a classroom with up to 20 children (with or without aides) and/or work as a co-teacher as needed.

Applicant must be willing and able to work with 7 to 12 year-olds in classrooms with mixed ages.

Candidates with 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credit from an accredited college or university with 6 semester hours (or 9 quarter hours) related to school-age child care, child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping or other related fields will also be considered.

Position requires a high level of reliability and ability to work during public school vacations/ holidays other than seven major SEAC holidays. Compensation commensurate with academic credentials and work experience.

Job duties involve the assistance of immigrant children in one of SEAC’s five elementary-level classrooms; planning and implementation of small-group or whole-class educational activities indoors and out; at least two parent/teacher conferences and one monthly teacher staff meeting.

Teacher is responsible for classroom clean-up/ arrangement/ reorganization at the end of day.

Must be willing to read, digest, implement, and adhere to CPS, IBoE, DCFS, ExceleRate Illinois, and SEAC standards. A high level of professional responsibility and quality of work is expected.
