Key Responsibilities
Financial Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate up-to-date general ledger entries using accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).
- Record and reconcile daily financial transactions, including income, expenses, and bank statements.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable.
Payroll & Benefits:
- Process payroll bi-weekly or monthly in coordination with HR and external payroll services.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws.
- Track employee time, benefits, and leave balances as needed.
Grants & Reporting:
- Track restricted and unrestricted funds across multiple grants and funding sources.
- Prepare detailed financial reports for grant applications and funder requirements.
- Assist with annual audits and preparation of 990s.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Assist in the development and monitoring of organizational and program budgets.
- Provide monthly and quarterly financial reports to the Executive Director and Board.
Compliance & Controls:
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and non-profit accounting standards.
- Maintain proper documentation and filing of financial records.
- Recommend and implement internal controls and best practices.
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting and fund accounting principles.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with managing grant budgets and audits.
- Familiarity with federal and state funding for social service programs.
- Knowledge of South-East Asian communities or multilingual skills are a plus.
Work Environment & Schedule
- This is a full-time in-person role at organization’s headquarters in Uptown, Chicago.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $25/hr. – $30/hr.
